Comprehensive Eye Exam

Comprehensive Eye Exam

It’s important to undergo a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. Routine checkups can alert you to potentially serious health problems and preserve your eyesight for years to come. At Broadway Family Optometry, Dr. Boris Mardian, OD, provides comprehensive eye exams to people of all ages, including LASIK, dry eyes, and contact lens consultations.

How frequently should I schedule a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

At Broadway Family Optometry, Dr. Mardian recommends a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. That rule applies even if your eyes appear healthy and problem-free.

Some vision-related issues, including glaucoma and cataracts, present few apparent symptoms early on. Regular visits to Dr. Mardian can alert you to these and other issues when they respond best to treatment.

If you have a history of vision-related health problems, more frequent visits may be necessary. That’s especially true if you wear glasses or contact lenses, have a family history of eye disease, or a chronic condition like diabetes that increases your risk of eye problems.
Contact Lens Exams, Fittings, and New FDA-Approved Color lenses

Contact Lens Exams, Fittings, and New FDA-Approved Color lenses

If you have poor vision but don’t want to wear eyeglasses, schedule a contact lens exam and fitting. At Broadway Family Optometry, Dr. Boris Mardian, OD, offers contact lens exams and fittings to people of all ages.

What are contact lens exams and fittings?

Contact lens exams and fittings are outpatient procedures that determine if you’re a good candidate for contact lenses.
Contact lenses are small, circular discs that rest on the surface of your eye. They correct common vision problems such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism, without the need for traditional eyeglasses.

During your exam, Dr. Mardian performs specialized tests to measure your visual acuity, evaluate eye health, and assess the curvature of your corneas. This ensures your contact lenses fit comfortably and provide clear, stable vision.

Myopic Management

Myopic Management

Protect Your Child’s Vision While Their Eyes Are Still Growing!

Myopia, or nearsightedness, often begins in childhood and can progress rapidly during the early school years. As the eye grows longer, glasses prescriptions tend to worsen, increasing the lifetime risk of retinal tears, retinal detachment, and myopic degeneration.

The good news is that we now have proven treatments that can slow down this progression when started early, during the years when the eyes are still developing most quickly.

At Broadway Family Optometry, we are proud to offer the latest FDA-approved solutions to slow the progression of myopia and safeguard your child’s long-term vision.

Essilor Stellest™ Lenses: The Breakthrough in Myopia Control
The new Stellest™ lenses look and feel just like regular glasses, but behind their clear surface lies advanced lens technology proven to slow myopia progression by up to 67% (when worn 12 hours a day).

Each lens contains a constellation of invisible lens segments that gently guide light to the retina in a way that slows abnormal eye growth, all while giving your child crisp, comfortable vision for school, sports, and daily life.

Stellest lenses are ideal for
  1. Children who are becoming more nearsighted each year
  2. Parents who prefer for a non-contact lens option
  3. Kids aged 6 to 12 years old who may not be ready for contact lenses

MiSight® 1 Day Contact Lenses – Freedom and Control
For active children ages 8–12, we also offer MiSight® 1 Day lenses, the first FDA-approved soft contact lenses designed specifically for myopia management. These lenses provide clear vision during the day while actively slowing myopia progression through optical design.

MiSight is an excellent option for
  • Children comfortable with contact lenses
  • Parents seeking flexible, non-glasses-based control

Early intervention makes all the difference.

LASIK Surgery Consultation

If you’re tired of wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses, you may consider LASIK surgery. This outpatient procedure can correct your vision in less than an hour. At Broadway Family Optometry, Dr. Boris Mardian, OD, has years of experience performing LASIK surgery.

What is a LASIK surgery consultation?

A LASIK surgery consultation is an in-office appointment that determines whether you’re a good candidate for LASIK surgery.

LASIK is an outpatient procedure that reshapes the tissue at the front of your eye, improving your vision without the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses.

LASIK can correct the three main types of refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During treatment, Dr. Mardian uses targeted laser energy to reshape your cornea, resulting in clear, crisp vision both close up and far away.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma

Glaucoma can lead to blindness, but with regular screenings and early detection, you can slow the progression of the disease and protect your vision. Dr. Boris Mardian, OD, and the team at Broadway Family Optometry in Glendale, California, are experienced in detecting and controlling glaucoma.

What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma is an ocular disease that damages your optic nerves. Your optic nerves, located in the back of your eyes, send visual information to your brain, which allows you to see and process images. Glaucoma usually affects both eyes, but it may not develop in both eyes simultaneously, so the disease often affects one eye more than the other.

The underlying cause of glaucoma is increased pressure on the optic nerve. Your eyes contain a fluid called aqueous humor, which serves several functions, including maintaining a healthy level of pressure in your eyes. When this fluid can’t drain as needed, it builds up in the front of your eye, which can damage your optic nerve over time.
